Minutes of Prince Edward Radio Club – October 13th 2011

Art VE3SQG called the meeting to order at 7:40 pm
OPERATING ACTIVITY Art VE3SQG spoke about recent DX operations including T32C. He noted that the high bands where quite active with contacts in the Azores, and Algeria. Activity is also picking up on 6m.

. ARES Report Bill VA3WOW spoke about the district ARES exercise to be held on October 22nd at 10:00pm. Stations should be in place by 9:00am, with groups in Hastings Prince Edward Frontenac Counties, and the City of Kingston. A net control station using VHF and HF will be located at VA3EP’s property near Lake on the Mountain. If the VHF contacts are not possible HF will be used as a fallback method. Al VE3FZ suggested that 80m & 40m be used for the HF contacts
TREASURERS REPORT Treasurer Al VE3FZ gave a financial report for the third quarter of 2011. (ATTACHED)
It was moved by Bob VE3QWB and Seconded by Brian VA3BRW that the treasurers report be accepted as presented. CARRIED Al also reported that the Hall had been booked for meetings for the next year There will be one month where the meeting will be held on the second Thursday due to a prior booking of the hall. The RAC and ECOA Insurance was discussed at great length. Ian VE3EP suggested that the decision be postponed until the next meeting when more information could be obtained.
CHRISTMAS DINNER The PERC Christmas Dinner will be held on the 10th of December. Doug will report back with more details next month.
NEW BUSINESS Art VE3SQG reported that he had received a quote for two FT450d radios. and two Samlex power supplies from Radioworld.
It was moved by Ian VE3EP that “PERC purchase a Yaesu FT450d and Samlex powersupply from Radioworld.” Seconded by Kevin VA3THB CARRIED Joe VA3JLF spoke about the “Handsfree” Legislation in Ontario and the number of provinces with similar legislation that includes an exemption for Radio amateurs. It is hoped lobbying by RAC and other groups will encourage MTO to include an exemption in the Ontario law. The intention is that a similar successful motion at QARC will result in the two clubs having identical radios for Field Day and other joint events
