Become A Ham

Fall 2016 Basic Radio Course  More Information

To become a ham, you need to study for, write and pass one or more examinations, starting with the Basic. There is no longer a need to learn the Morse Code (although you certainly can if you want).
  • If you pass the Basic test with 70% or more, you get access to radio bands above 30 Mhz with 100 watts of transmit power.
  • If you pass the Basic test with 80% or more, you get access to ALL radio bands with 100 watts of transmit power.
  • If you pass the Advanced test with 70% or more, you get access to ALL radio bands with 1000 watts of transmit power (as well as other privileges).
When you are ready to write the exam, contact one of the club's volunteer examiners
